How often have you received "expert" advice and thought, "Hhmmm, That doesn't work for me. But, what do I know? They're the expert". You followed the expert advice, against your better instinct, then later thought, "Damn. I should have ignored them and trusted my gut!"
Me too. I hate that feeling.
Number three from my list of favorite advice from business expert Alan Woodard, co-creator of Fast Company.
“Do what needs doing whether experts agree or not”
Great leaders choose what works for them. Being willing to choose it no matter what people who “know” better (i.e. experts) say, is what makes them great.
That being said here is a quick little tool to double check your knowing, before you do what needs doing. I call it the 3C’c
1. Does this Contribute to the Ultimate Vision?
- If yes - Yay! Done. Move on
- If no - Go to C2
2. Can I Change it?
- If yes – How?
- If no - Go to C3
3. Kick it to the Curb
And go with your gut!
